Spatial planner and social geographer. He studies how settlements and the surrounding landscape change and interact, and how planning shapes them. He sees planning as a complex field and keeps a broad scope. His empirical work draws on large spatial datasets and covers access to services and spatial justice, socially excluded localities, landscape attractiveness, and the development of settlement structure. He also works on contemporary planning theory, particularly urban governance, the evolution of urban development policy and the legitimacy of planning.

At the Department of Landscape and Urban Planning, he teaches practical and theoretical courses for future planners at both bachelor's and master's level and supervises theses.
