Introduction to Wildlife Management for BSc. - What is wildlife and what is management? And why should we manage wildlife? Creation of sound management plan lead you to reach goals, either in terms of sustainable use of a herd of buffaloes or in terms of elephant conservation. Intoduction to wildlife management will open you doors to further studies on our department.

Behavioural ecology (Animal behaviour) for MSc. – Even the animals with long domestication history often react according to the principles inherited from their wild ancestors. In fact, we are doing the same. Understanding the behaviour of your animals will help you to reach better reproductive performance, safer manipulation and healthy group composition without unnecessary fights. And once you to start to understand your own reactions, you are the winner!

Animal census and monitoring – To make any decision about your animals, you should be aware of their numbers. How to count wildlife which is moving around, flying, hiding underground? You will be taught the most important methods and you will get a practical chance to apply them and calculate animal density and abundance. 

Antelope use and conservation for MSc. – Astonishing diversity of antelopes adapted for virtually all habitats in Africa has surrounded people since their first steps in the upright position. Antelopes have been always seen as an important food resource, however that’s only part of their glory! They can increase quality of pastures, teach us about nutrient use through massive migrations, and even act as a prevention of livestock loss from predation. Let’s discover what is hidden under the names of gemsbok, gerenuk, springbok, dibatag, hirola, beira, and chousinga. TO BE OPENED IN 2019.

Animal diversity conservation for MSc. – A lot of animal species has gone extinct, often due to human pressure, a lot of species is threatened by extinction. Why should we protect the animal diversity and which methods of animal diversity conservation should we apply? Both in situ and ex situ approach will be discussed, as well as a modern view of One plan approach. TO BE OPENED IN 2019.
