Czech Blue Poppy

In February 2021, the designation Czech Blue Poppy was registered in the Official Journal of the EU as a Protected Geographical Indication.


Here are a few links and current invitations, articles dealing with the issue of growing Czech blue poppy, which is used exclusively for food purposes.

The varieties of Czech blue poppy bred on the Czech territory include Azur (cultivated during 1928–73), Hanácký blue (1934–80), Modran (1969) and Amarin (1975). Nowadays there are cultivated varieties of Czech blue poppy Orfeus (2009), Orbis (2012), Aplaus (2014), Opex (2015), Onyx (2016), MS Diamant, MS Topas, MS Zafir, Azurit, MS Harlekýn (2021), Olaf (2023), Emanuel (2024). White-seeded forms of Czech blue poppy - variety Orel are grown, varieties with ocher color of seeds are called Redy.

In 2019, we registered food-blue varieties grown in the Czech Republic in the system of guild standards. Now any blue-seed poppy grower can register this standard under the name "Czech Blue Poppy". The varieties of Czech blue poppy include:
