VOLUNTEERING: Investigation of Propagation Methods for Selected Tropical Fruit Trees, Reserva Rio Guaycuyacu

07.07.2016

Reserva Rio Guaycuyacu has a collection of about 600 species of tropical fruit trees a world class collection-gathered over 40+ years. Many of these species have excellent potential as commercial crops in Ecuador, both for local consumption and export. Some are important crops in other countries, while others are mostly unknown.
In order for these trees to provide value to local communities and beyond, much investigation is required to determine the most appropriate propagation methods. Some work has already been done on propagation methods for some species, not for others. The reserve has a nursery area including a mist house for rooting cuttings, and materials for grafting and layering. For more information se the Reserva Rio Guaycuyacu website.
