Short bio


Jaroslav Havlík is an associate professor (docent) at the Department of Food Science, Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, where he leads the Agromics research group. His work applies NMR and LC-MS/MS metabolomics to food quality, authenticity and safety, to the metabolism of dietary polyphenols by the gut microbiota, and to pollinator health and the honey bee gut microbiome. The group operates a 500 MHz NMR spectrometer and an LC-QTOF MS/MS platform and provides metabolomics services to academic and commercial partners.

He was awarded his Ph.D. in Agriculture in 2007 and habilitated in 2013, and has worked at the University of Glasgow as a research assistant. He is the author of more than 120 publications in international journals (h-index 29), has co-led national and European projects including H2020 HEDIMED, and has participated in several COST Actions — POSITIVe (FA1403), UNGAP (CA16205) and, most recently, INFOGUT (CA23110).

Research focus

Agricultural and analytical metabolomics (¹H NMR, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS) and chemometrics; food quality, authenticity and safety; metabolism of dietary polyphenols and interactions with the human gut microbiome; clinical and nutritional metabolomics; pollinator health and the honey bee gut microbiome, including lactic acid bacteria as probiotic and fermentation candidates.

Knowledge transfer

Co-founder of Terpenix s.r.o., a CZU spin-off company commercialising research in the biological protection of plants, stored agricultural products and foods, and providing contract research to the commercial sector.
